Eastbourne gets incredibly busy during the air show weekend. The absolute golden rule of Airbourne? Leave the car at home if you can.

Public Transport (The Smart Move)

• By Train: Southern Rail runs direct services to Eastbourne Railway Station from London Victoria, Brighton, and Hastings. The walk from the station to the main seafront takes about 10–15 minutes down Terminus Road. Warning: There is a strict, heavily managed queuing system at the station from 4:00 PM onwards on Saturday and Sunday. Be patient, and don’t rush for the last train home.
• By Bus: If you’re coming from Brighton, the 12, 12A, 12X, or 13X services are fantastic (though they terminate at The Beacon during the show). Stagecoach’s 99 service connects Hastings to Gildredge Road. Keep in mind that coastal buses divert away from the immediate seafront due to official road closures.

If You Absolutely Must Drive

Road closures stretch right across the main seafront, making central parking non-existent.

• Park & Bus: Head for the Five Acres Field scheme (off the A22/A27, postcode BN22 7SG). You can park up and jump on a shuttle bus straight to Cavendish Place on the seafront.
• Book Ahead: If you use official event parking, pre-book online to save money and bypass the regular lines via the express entry lanes.

The flying display line sits squarely between the Western Lawns and Eastbourne Pier. Where you should park your deckchair depends entirely on what kind of vibe you want:

Packing Checklist: What to Bring

You’ll likely be out for 6 to 8 hours. Being unprepared can ruin your day quickly. Make sure to pack:

• High-Quality Ear Protection: Non-negotiable. Fast jets like the RAF Typhoon generate thunderous, chest-rattling noise. Ear defenders are essential for toddlers, kids, and anyone sensitive to sound.
• A Power Bank: Between taking videos of the planes, checking flying schedules, and searching for lost friends, your phone battery will drain fast.
• Lightweight Chairs or a Rug: Sitting on hard concrete or shingle pebbles for hours is no fun. A lightweight, strap-on camping chair is worth its weight in gold.
• Plenty of Water & Snacks: While there are plenty of vendors, the lines during lunch hour are massive. Save your money and time by packing a cooler bag.
• £10 for a Programme: The airshow is completely free, but it relies heavily on donations to survive year after year. Buy an official event programme for £10—it gives you the exact up-to-date daily flight timings and supports the show.

Weather & Sea Breezes

August in Eastbourne can serve up glorious sunshine, but being right on the English Channel changes the rules.

The Microclimate Factor: Even on a blistering 25°C day inland, the coastal sea breeze can bring a sudden, sharp chill to the promenade.

• Sun Preparation: The sun reflects intensely off the sea and the white chalk cliffs. Pack high-factor sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat. There is very little natural shade on the beach.
• Layers are Key: Bring a light, windproof jacket or hoodie in your backpack. When the sun goes behind a cloud or the wind picks up off the water, the temperature drops rapidly.
• Keep an Eye on the Cloud Base: If the weather turns damp or foggy, don’t despair. The pilots switch to “rolling” or “flat” display routines rather than vertical loops, meaning you still get a fantastic show closer to the water!

Airbourne organizers never release exact hour-by-hour display times in advance. Because flight schedules depend entirely on the morning’s weather, cloud base, and live airspace coordination, the precise daily timeline is only revealed each morning via the official event programme.

However, the daily itinerary follows a very distinct pattern based on which aircraft are scheduled for which days. The 2026 four-day itinerary splits across these core daily lineups:

Thursday & Friday: The Opening Days

• The atmosphere: Generally lighter crowds, making it much easier to move around the promenade and grab prime viewing spots.
• Key Aircraft:
  • Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF): The iconic Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane flying all four days.
  • Royal Navy Duet: The Black Cats Helicopter Team performing alongside the historic Navy Wings Wasp (Thursday and Friday only).
  • Civilian Displays: Stampe Formation Team, The Firebirds, and solo performances from the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers.
  • Fast Jets (Friday Only): The Red Arrows and the thunderous RAF Typhoon join the party starting Friday.

    What a Typical Day Looks Like

    While exact times shift, the festival ground itself follows a reliable rhythm:

    • 10:00 AM – Ground Attractions Open: The Military Exhibition Zone on the Western Lawns, RAF simulators, children’s entertainment zones, and trade stands open to the public.
    • 1:00 PM – Flying Displays Begin: A continuous rolling schedule of historic warbirds, jaw-dropping wingwalkers, and civilian aerobatic teams.
    • Mid-to-Late Afternoon – The Headliners: The premier military assets—like the Red Arrows and the RAF Typhoon—traditionally slot into the mid-afternoon or late-afternoon windows when crowd sizes peak.
    • 5:00 PM – Flying Concludes: The aircraft head home, but the ground event remains lively.
    • Evenings – Live Music & Entertainment: The Airbourne Livebeach stage kicks off, bringing live bands and entertainment to the seafront well into the evening.
    • Sunday Night Finale (approx. 9:00 PM): The entire four-day festival wraps up with a massive firework display centered near the Wish Tower, close to The Lansdowne Hotel
